About Us - VisitingPortugal

In June 2001, our family kissed Seattle good-bye and moved to my husband's ancestral Portugal to work with Habitat for Humanity/Portugal. Soon afterwards, in an attempt to protect ourselves from the crashing dollar, we decided to panic -- no, wait -- we diversified into €uro-zone real estate.

We couldn't be more pleased with the result: sharing our love of the Portuguese people and culture with guests from around the world has been a delight.

And now that our daughter, above, has permanently re-planted her Portuguese roots and married a Portuguese man, also above, it looks like we'll be here for the foreseeable future. That makes our son -- who only writes in Portuguese -- a very happy young man (above, left).

Finally, in response to requests for more properties with Casa Joaquina's wonderful mix of history, comfort and centrality, we added four new rentals in 2005:

  • * Casa Pátria, located across the street from Casa Joaquina
  • * Casa Santana & Casa Travessa, 3 minutes from the Rossio (and 3 minutes from Casa Jo)
  • * Casa Armona, our extended family's new beach cottage on Armona Island in the Eastern Algarve
Many thanks to all our guests for the support and encouragement.

We look forward to seeing you someday soon. Until then, Godspeed.
